Modesto, California (May 11, 2020) – According to authorities, a suspected DUI hit-and-run accident that occurred in Modesto Saturday evening resulted in major injuries.

A woman and two children were hospitalized after their pickup truck collided with a black Honda driven by 23-year-old Joseph Anthony Macedo at the intersection of College and Granger avenues.

Due to the impact, the 23-year-old woman was pinned inside the truck. She was rescued from the wreckage by firefighters and then taken to the hospital for treatment of serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The two children, aged 7 and 11, sustained non-serious injuries and were also transported to a local hospital for further aid.

Macedo, who was allegedly driving while intoxicated, fled the scene after the wreck. Officials later arrested him on suspicion of DUI causing injury, driving on a revoked or suspended license and hit-and-run. The Modesto resident was booked on a $50,000 bail.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
