Bakersfield Car Accident at Mt. Vernon Avenue and Niles Street Kills 1
Bakersfield, California (May 21, 2020) – A traffic collision involving three vehicles at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Niles Street in Bakersfield Thursday morning resulted in the death of one unidentified victim.
As per the California Highway Patrol report, a Honda Civic operated by 22-year-old Ashley Garness at the intersection, near East Bakersfield High School, collided with a Volvo C70 and a Nissan Sentra at approximately 2:00 a.m.
Garness, who sustained moderate injuries, reportedly ran a red light at the intersection at the collision's time.
Meanwhile, the Volvo operator suffered minor injuries while the Nissan driver continued driving after the wreck.
Authorities later arrested Garness for DUI.
The mishap resulted in the closure of Mt. Vernon Avenue between Niles and Oregon Streets as police, and emergency crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
