Andrew Haslem ID’d as Bicyclist Critically Injured in Santa Barbara Crash on Highway 54 near San Antonio Creek Road
Santa Barbara, California (May 3, 2020) – The bicyclist who was critically injured Saturday morning in a traffic accident in Santa Barbara has been identified as Andrew Haslem, 22, of Los Altos.
At about 9:43 a.m. Saturday, May 2, officers responded to the crash on Highway 154 near San Antonio Creek Road.
Authorities said Haslem was riding his bicycle down Highway 154 toward Santa Barbara when, for unknown reasons, he collided with a Toyota Prius that was also traveling in the same direction.
Haslem sustained serious injuries and was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in critical condition.
Haslem is reportedly a student at UC Santa Barbara.
Highway 154 was closed following the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
“Far too many bicycle collisions are caused by the carelessness or recklessness of other motorists.
