Man Killed in San Jose Pedestrian Accident on Highway 101 near Highway 880
San Jose, California (March 9, 2020) – A 23-year-old San Jose man was struck and killed by two vehicles after a car crash Saturday morning in San Jose, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The deadly crash occurred at around 5:40 a.m. Saturday, March 7 in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just north of Interstate Highway 880.
According to the CHP, the 23-year-old man was driving a 1997 Acura northbound on Highway 101 when, for unknown reasons, he crashed. The Acura became disabled in the far left lane of the highway.
The man then exited the disabled vehicle and stood in the lane adjacent to it when he was struck by a 2014 Dodge. He was then hit a second time by a 2019 Chevrolet, which also slammed into a 1999 Lexus that was traveling on the highway.
The 23-year-old man died at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The drivers of the Chevy and Lexus both suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Dodge was not injured.
Several lanes on northbound U.S. Highway 101 were closed for approximately three hours following the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
A person on foot is no match for a vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death. “Due to the incredibly serious nature of these types of injuries, pedestrian accident cases often require special care in order to help ensure victims receive the full compensation they need for extensive medical bills, ongoing rehabilitation therapy, in-home care, lost past and future earnings, and numerous other economic and non-economic damages”, Said Arin Khodaverdian, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
Arin noted that pedestrians, in most instances, have the right-of-way when crossing a street or an intersection. According to Arin, to properly investigate a pedestrian crash and prove negligence, enough resources are required. “A skilled attorney has the resources and will help investigate the accident to determine the party at fault,” Arin said
