Lisa Pena ID’d as Passenger Hospitalized in Fatal Madera Ranchos Car Accident on Highway 145
Madera Ranchos, California (March 1, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Saturday morning accident that left two people killed and three others injured in Madera Ranchos.
The accident occurred at around 2:40 a.m., on February 29, on Highway 145 east of Road 38.
A 2015 Chrysler 300 was westbound on Highway 145 when it collided head-on with a 2003 Honda Accord as it moved into the eastbound lane of the highway while attempting to pass another vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Chrysler then crashed through a barbed-wire fence off the north shoulder of the highway, overturned, came to a stop in a cattle pasture, and then burst into flames. The Honda Spun and stopped blocking the eastbound lane partially.
Both drivers a 37-year-old woman from Madera, Honda driver, and a 29-year-old man from Hollister, Chrysler driver, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Lisa Deanna Pena, 45, of Madera, a passenger in the Honda and one other passenger in the same car were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.
A Chrysler passenger was also hospitalized at the same hospital with major injuries.
Alcohol or drugs had not been determined as contributing factors in the accident, according to the police.
Traffic on Highway 145 was closed for about four hours due to the accident.
