Newhall Pass, California (March 17, 2020) – The two people who were killed in a plane crash on Friday afternoon in Newhall Pass have been identified as John Russel Calvert, 77, of Valencia, and Kevin Solis, 36, of Fontana.
The fatal crash happened at around 1:50 p.m., on March 13, near the Sunshine Canyon Landfill.
A plane had took-off from Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in North Bend, Oregon clocked in at around 10:41 a.m., on Friday and was heading to the Van Nuys Airport.
The plane, described as a single-engine Mooney M20, disappeared from radar while inbound to Van Nuys Airport. The wreckage of the plane was later found on a hill near the Landfill, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
A witness working at Sunshine Canyon Landfill reported seeing an aircraft with engine problems. The plane description matched to Calvert’s plane.
Calvert and Solis were pronounced dead at the scene.
The reasons that led to the plane crash were immediately not known.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to Arin Khodaverdian, the Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, a separate investigation by an experienced attorney is necessary so as clearly uncover the circumstances surrounding the collision. “An attorney will also help the victim to navigate all the legal processes in pursuit of fair compensation and justice. Plane accident claims are rarely straightforward, and, regardless of the circumstances involved, liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim. It is crucial, therefore, that you have an experienced attorney on your side,” said Arin.
