Carlos LemosChamo ID’d as Passenger Injured in Fiery Madera Ranchos Car Crash on Highway 145 near Road 38
Madera Ranchos, California (March 1, 2020) – Two people were killed and three others were injured in a head-on car crash on Saturday morning in Madera Ranchos, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday, February 29 on Highway 145 east of Road 38.
The police said a westbound 2015 Chrysler was attempting to pass another vehicle when it drifted into the eastbound lane and hit a 2003 Honda Accord head-on.
Following the collision, the Chrysler crashed through a barbed-wire fence off the north shoulder of the highway and overturned before it came to a stop in a cattle pasture, where it burst into flames. The Honda Spun and stopped blocking the eastbound lane partially.
The driver of the Honda, a 37-year-old woman from Madera, and the driver of the Chrysler, a 29-year-old man from Hollister, both died at the scene.
Carlos LemosChamo, 24, of Merced, who was a passenger in the Chrysler, sustained significant injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Two passengers in the Honda were also hospitalized at the Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
It is undetermined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
Highway 145 was closed for about four hours after the crash.
