55-Year-Old James Dean Among 3 Injured in 2-Vehicle Collision on Highway 299 in Lewiston

James Dean Hospitalized after Acura MDX and Ford F-350 Crash on Highway 299 near Trinity Dam Boulevard in Trinity County

Lewiston, California (June 18, 2020) – One of the three victims who were injured following a head-on crash on Highway 299, just east of Trinity Dam Boulevard in Lewiston, Friday afternoon has been identified as 55-year-old James Dean of White City.

The accident happened when a 2011 Acura MDX driven by 34-year-old Rosemarie Cantero westbound on Highway 299 allowed it to drift into the eastbound lane. The Acura then crashed head-on with a 2000 Ford F-350 operated by Dean at about 4:41 p.m. on June 12.

Due to the impact, Cantero was pinned inside her vehicle and had to be extricated by medical personnel along with firefighters. The Junction City resident was then rushed to Mercy Medical Center by Trinity County Life Support for the treatment of major injuries.

Officials affirmed that Cantero’s child, 1, was not injured following the mishap.

Dean and his 40-year-old passenger, Jesse Ortega, suffered moderate injuries. Both were also transported to Mercy Medical Center by Trinity County Life Support for further aid.

Meanwhile, all involved victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

The accident resulted in the highway closure as police and emergency crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
