20-Year-Old Sacramento Woman Killed in Elk Grove Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 near Laguna Boulevard
Elk Grove, California (January 6, 2020) – A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle after she exited a crashed vehicle on Highway 99 in Elk Grove late Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident happened just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, January 5 on southbound Highway 99 near Laguna Boulevard.
The CHP said three vehicles were involved in a non-injury accident on southbound Highway 99. One of the vehicles, a Toyota Prius, sustained major front-end damage and continued traveling for nearly half a mile before it became disabled in the center divider.
The driver of the Prius, only identified as a 20-year-old Sacramento woman, exited the vehicle, climbed over the divider and crossed northbound traffic. She was then struck by a Honda Civic that was traveling northbound on the highway.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Civic, a 29-year-old Sacramento man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The accident remains under investigation.
