Wayne Richards ID’d as Pilot Killed in Santa Clarita Plane Crash near 14 Freeway
Santa Clarita, California (January 5, 2020) – Authorities have identified the pilot who died after his singled engine plane crashed Saturday morning in Santa Clarita as Wayne Richards.
The deadly crash happened at around 10:10 a.m. Saturday, January 4 on the Newhall Avenue off-ramp from the 14 Freeway.
Deputies said the plane, a home-built TM-1 Thunder Mustang, crashed near the freeway for reasons still under investigation. The plane caught fire after the crash.
Richards, who was the only person on board the plane, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one on the ground was hurt.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
