Joanna Ochoa and Ramon Hernandez Injured in San Mateo Fatal Car Accident on Highway 101
San Mateo, California (January 21, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol has released the name of a female victim who was injured in a fatal car accident in San Mateo on Sunday morning as 27-year-old Joanna Ochoa of Concord.
The fatal crash occurred at about 1:49 a.m. January 19, on Highway 101 south of 3rd Avenue.
The accident began when a white Dodge Charger rear-ended a Toyota Yaris driven by a female party in the No. 2 lane.
A southbound black Toyota Camry driven by Ramon Hernandez, 32, of Redwood City hit 50-year-old Ivania Torres as she was walking eastbound across traffic lanes to talk the Dodge motorist.
Torres was riding in the Yaris at the time of the collision.
Ochoa, who was a passenger in the Camry, was taken to Stanford Hospital with unspecified injuries.
Another unidentified passenger in the Yaris was hospitalized.
Both the Dodge operator and Hernandez were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The investigation is underway.
