Steven Darrough Hospitalized after Gerber Crash on Highway 99 at Gerber Road
Tehama County, California (January 9, 2020) – Steven Darrough, 68, of Red Bluff, was hospitalized Tuesday morning after a traffic accident involving a transit bus in Gerber, Tehama County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 7 on Highway 99 at Gerber Road.
The CHP said a 1990 Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound on Gerber Road when the driver entered the intersection, directly in the pathway of a 2017 Ford E-450 TRAX (Tehama County) transit bus that was heading northbound, driven by Darrough. As a result, the bus struck the passenger side of the Mustang.
The driver of the Mustang, a 17 -year-old Los Molinos boy, and his 14-year-old passenger, were ejected from the vehicle upon the impact and sustained major injuries. The driver was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding and the passenger was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff.
Darrough and three passengers on the bus, Ronnie Allemand, 41, Mary Ann Griffin, 74, both of Corning, and Anthony Leon, 66, of Red Bluff, sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center.
The accident remains under investigation by the CHP.
