Santiago Cabezas Jr ID’d as Teen Killed in Santa Clarita Car Accident on Highway 14 near Sierra Highway
Santa Clarita, California (January 23, 2020) – The teenager who was killed early Thursday morning in a traffic accident on Highway 14 in Santa Clarita has been identified as Santiago Daniel Cabezas Jr., 19, of Santa Ana.
The deadly crash happened at around 1:04 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Highway 14, just north of Sierra Highway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cabezas was driving a white Honda Civic southbound on Highway 14, approaching Sierra Highway at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the rear of a red Volvo truck that was stopped on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the truck ramp.
Cabezas was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the Volvo was not injured.
Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed were considered a factor in the accident.
One of two southbound truck route lanes of the 14 Freeway were closed for about four hours as crews worked to clear the scene. As of 5:54 a.m., the roadway was reopened.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP’s Newhall office at (661) 294-5540.
