42-Year-Old San Jose Man Dies, 1 Seriously Injured in Hollister Car Accident on Highway 25 near Bolsa Road; Jesus Rodriguez Arrested
Hollister, California (January 4, 2020) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured Thursday night in an alleged DUI crash in Hollister, authorities said.
At around 9:08 p.m. Thursday, January 2, California Highway Patrol officers received a report regarding a traffic accident on Highway 25, just north of Bolsa Road.
According to the CHP, a 42-year-old San Jose man was driving a 2017 Ford Transit van southbound on a private driveway, just west of Highway 25 while Jesus Rodriguez, 34, of Hollister, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Highway 25 at approximately 55 to 60 miles per hour approaching the Ford Transit.
As the van entered Highway 25 from the private drive, the two vehicles collided. The force of the impact caused the van to overturned off the roadway and into a ditch.
The driver of the van was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
A 39-year-old passenger in the van sustained major injuries and was taken to a San Jose hospital.
Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries before being booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.
The southbound lane was shut down for almost three hours as the investigation and cleanup took place.
The accident remains under investigation.
