Marcelino Escobedo ID’d as Man Killed in Tulare Pedestrian Accident at Inyo and D Streets
Tulare, California (January 16, 2020) – The man who was killed last week Thursday in a hit-and-run accident at an intersection in Tulare has been identified as Marcelino Escobedo, 61, of Tulare.
The deadly accident took place at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 9 at the intersection of Inyo and D streets.
Authorities said Escobedo was walking across Inyo street west of the D street intersection when for an unknown reason, he was hit by a vehicle driven by Leonardo Villasenor, 50.
Escobedo sustained major injuries and was transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries four days later.
Villasenor did not stop render aid and fled the scene. Police described his vehicle as a light blue 1996 to 1998 Nissan Quest minivan with major front-end damage and possibly a broken windshield.
Villasenor was later arrested and booked into custody on felony hit-and-run charges. Authorities said he was not cooperative and remained silent on the whereabouts of his vehicle involved in the crash.
