Kevin Wilson ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in El Cajon Hit-and-Run Crash on Dehesa Road near Singing Hills Golf Course
El Cajon, California (January 21, 2020) – Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Monday morning in El Cajon as Kevin Wilson, 56, of La Mesa.
The deadly accident took place at around 10:45 a.m. Monday, January 20 on Dehesa Road near Singing Hills Golf Course.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by Craig Wendell Nelson, 56, was traveling eastbound on Dehesa Road when for undetermined reasons, it drifted into a bike lane east of Willow Glen Drive and struck Wilson from behind.
Wilson was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Nelson continued driving to the east and south and abandoned his vehicle on Sloane Canyon Road. Officers later found him hiding in a nearby brushy area.
Nelson was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. He was being held on $50,000 bail pending arraignment, tentatively scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the CHP El Cajon area office at 619-401-2000.
According to Arin Khodaverdian, the Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, a separate investigation by an experienced attorney is necessary so as clearly uncover the circumstances surrounding the collision. “An attorney will also help the victim to navigate all the legal processes in pursuit of fair compensation and justice. Car accident claims are rarely straightforward, and, regardless of the circumstances involved, liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim. It is crucial, therefore, that you have an experienced attorney on your side,” said Arin.
