Kendra Czekaj Killed in Sacramento Pedestrian Accident on 80 Freeway at Watt Avenue
Sacramento, California (January 17, 2020) – Authorities have identified Kendra Czekaj, 12, as the girl killed in a pedestrian crash Wednesday night in the area of Sacramento.
The deadly crash occurred on Business 80 at Watt Avenue a while before 10:00 p.m. on January 15.
As per the CHP officials, Czekaj was pursuing a 16-year-old girl and was running across northbound lanes of Business 80 when they were struck by a vehicle.
The teenager was reportedly running away from the Children’s Receiving Home that hosts children with no homes to go to. The two girls were reportedly living in the home shelter.
Czekaj suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Officials did not immediately release the name of the teenage girl.
Authorities said the involved motorist remained at the crash site and was cooperative.
The CHP Officer Greg Zumstein said that there was no overhead lighting in the location and the motorists could not see someone running from the right shoulder in front of them before the crash.
Alcohol or drugs were not believed to have played a role in the accident.
An investigation by the Sacramento Department of Social Services is ongoing.
