Jorge Vidana Hospitalized after West Covina Car Accident on 10 Freeway near Holt Avenue
West Covina, California (January 1, 2019) – Jorge Vidana, 43, of La Puente, was hospitalized Monday evening after a fatal traffic accident involving four vehicles on the 10 Freeway in West Covina, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at around 5:49 p.m. Monday, December 30 on the westbound 10 Freeway, just east of Holt Avenue.
According to a report by the CHP, a 2005 Chevrolet Express van, driven by Amado Santos, 60, of Sun Valley, was traveling at about 60 miles per hour in the No. 2 lane when for an undetermined reason, the Express van rear-ended a 2014 Smart car operated by Yuan Zhang, 37, of Chino Hills.
The Smart car was pushed into a 2008 Chrysler Aspen driven by Vidana, which then crashed into the rear of a Kia Stinger sedan driven by Jaynene Owens, 40, of Covina.
A 28-year-old San Dimas man who was riding as a passenger in the Smart car was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Zhang was also transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with blunt force trauma injury.
Santos suffered facial injuries. Vidana had pain in his shoulder, leg and back and was transported to Emanate Health Foothill Presbyterian Hospital.
Owens complained of shoulder, neck and back pain while her passenger, a 69-year-old Covina woman, had pain in her head, neck and back. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment.
As of 6:12 p.m., all lanes of the westbound 10 Freeway were closed. They were reopened three hours later.
