Janice Tate Injured in Highway 49 Crash near Joeger Road in Auburn

Auburn, California (January 11, 2020) – Janice Tate, 78, was injured Friday morning in a deadly traffic accident in Auburn, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at around 8:15 a.m. Friday, January 10 on Highway 49, just north of Joeger Road and south of the Nevada County line.

The CHP said a 68-year-old Auburn woman was driving a Honda Accord and was pulling out of a private road when she turned left onto the highway and entered the pathway of a KIA Sportage SUV that was traveling northbound at 55-60 mph, driven by Tate.

The SUV then swerved to the right and struck the Honda on the left side. The force of the impact caused the SUV to flip onto its roof.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated both drivers from their vehicles. The Honda driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

Tate sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the CHP.
