18-Year-Old Chandler Lin Killed in Oildale Big Rig Crash on Highway 99 near Hosking Road

Oildale, California (January 7, 2020) - Chandler Bay Lin, 18, was among two people killed in a suspected hit-and-run collision involving a big rig on Friday evening in Oildale.

The deadly collision occurred on Highway 99, just south of the Hosking Road exit at about 5:45 p.m. January 3, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

According to the CHP, a semi truck traveling northbound on Highway 99 in the slow lane was rear-ended by a dark-colored Elantra with three occupants. The sedan was pinned under the big rig as a result of the collision.

The driver of the big rig failed to stay at the scene of the crash. A witness to the crash followed the big rig and provided a description of the suspect to the authorities, who later located and detained the driver.

Lin was one of the two occupants of the sedan who were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third occupant was taken to a hospital. There was no update on the patient's condition.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
