Authorities Identify Motorcyclist Killed in Ortega Highway Crash

Freeman Chen Killed in Lake Elsinore Motorcycle Accident on Ortega Highway(State Route 74) near Grand Avenue

Lake Elsinore, California (January 20, 2020) – The motorcyclist who was killed Saturday afternoon in a traffic accident on Ortega Highway in Lake Elsinore has been identified by the Riverside County coroner's office.

Freeman Chen, 32, died in the crash that took place just before 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18 on the westbound side of Ortega Highway, about three miles west of Grand Avenue. Ortega Highway is also known as state Route 74.

Chen was riding his 2018 BMW R nineT eastbound Ortega Highway when he made an unsafe turn and lost control. He then veered into the westbound lanes, where he collided head-on with a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup.

Chen was wedged under the truck as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
