Anthony Leon Among 6 Injured in Tehama County Transit Bus Crash on Highway 99 At Gerber Road
Tehama County, California (January 9, 2020) – Anthony Leon, 66, of Red Bluff, was among six people injured Tuesday morning in a traffic crash in Tehama County, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place at around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 7 on Highway 99 at Gerber Road.
According to the CHP report, a 1990 Ford Mustang, driven by a 17 -year-old Los Molinos boy, was traveling eastbound on Gerber Road toward the intersection with Highway 99W.
Reportedly, the Mustang entered the intersection, directly in the pathway of a 2017 Ford E-450 TRAX (Tehama County) transit bus that was heading northbound, driven by Steven Darrough, 68, of Red Bluff. As a result, the bus crashed into the passenger side of the Mustang.
The Mustang driver and his 14-year-old passenger were ejected from the vehicle upon the impact. Both sustained major injuries. The driver was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding while the passenger was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff.
Darrough and three passengers on the bus, Mary Ann Griffin, 74, Ronnie Allemand, 41, both of Corning and Leon, were taken to Mercy Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
