Adonis Jones Seriously Injured in Bakersfield Crash on Highway 99; Aurelio Castaneda Arrested
Bakersfield, California (January 6, 2020) – Adonis Malik Jones, 20, was seriously injured Friday night in an alleged hit-and-run accident that also left two people dead in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal wreck took place on Highway 99 Friday, January 3.
The CHP said Aurelio Castaneda, 58, of Tulare, was driving a truck on Highway 99 when for an unknown reason, his truck was hit from the back by a 2007 Hyundai driven by an 18-year-old man. The Hyundai was then struck by a third vehicle that was heading northbound on Highway 99.
The driver of the Hyundai and his 24-year-old passenger both died in the crash. Their identities have not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Jones, who was a riding as a second passenger in the Hyundai, was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. The female driver of the third vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Castaneda did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. He was later arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run.
The accident remains under investigation.
