Man Killed, Two Injured in Whittier Car Accident on Pomona (60) Freeway near San Gabriel River (605) Freeway; Kaj Faaborg Arrested
Whittier, California (January 10, 2020) – Kaj Wendall Faaborg, 42, of La Puente, was arrested following a fiery traffic accident that left one person dead and injured two others in Whittier Thursday night.
The tragic accident took place at around 10:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9 on Pomona (60) Freeway, just west of San Gabriel River (605) Freeway interchange.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2004 Ford Mustang had stopped due to stopped traffic ahead when for an unknown reason, the Ford was hit from the rear by a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Faaborg.
The impact pushed the Ford into the back of a Honda, which then rear-ended a Toyota. As a result of the collision, the Ford and the Honda both burst into flames.
The driver of the Ford, an unidentified man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The driver of the Honda sustained major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Two occupants of the Toyota had minor injuries.
According to the CHP report, Faaborg reportedly fled the scene after the crash but was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and hit-and-run. He was held on $100,000 bail.
The accident remains under investigation.
