Wrong-Way Driver Killed, 1 Injured in Campbell Car Accident on Highway 17 near Hamilton Avenue

Campbell, California (January 17, 2020) – One person was killed and another was injured early Friday morning in a wrong-way car accident on Highway 17 in Campbell, according to a local news source.

The fatal crash happened at around 3:23 a.m. on Highway 17 near Hamilton Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 17 when it collided with a Toyota Avalon.

The driver of the Accord died in the crash. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Avalon was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters. The patient was then transported to a hospital in an unknown condition.

A SigAlert was issued for the closure of northbound lanes of the highway near Interstate 280. As of 4:36 a.m., one northbound lane reopened.

No other details about the crash were immediately given.

The accident remains under investigation.
