Person Killed in Merced County Pedestrian Accident on Highway 59 near Highway 152
Merced County, California (February 19, 2020) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident took place at about 10:30 p.m. on Highway 59, just south of Merced near Highway 152.
The CHP said a vehicle was traveling on the highway when, for unknown reasons, it drifted off the roadway and struck the pedestrian. The car also hit a power pole
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
PG&E crews were dispatched to the scene to repair the pole.
It remains unknown why the driver veered off the highway, and if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Highway 59 and Highway 152 were closed for several hours during the investigation.
The accident remains under investigation.
