Melaku Madhin ID’d as Man Killed In Long Beach Pedestrian Accident On South Street Near Downey Avenue
Long Beach, California (February 20, 2020) – The man who died nine days after being struck by a vehicle in Long Beach has been identified as Melaku Madhin, 62, of Lakewood, according to authorities.
The accident happened at about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5 on South Street, just west of Downey Avenue.
Authorities said Madhin was wearing dark clothing and walking northbound across South Street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was hit by a 2003 Toyota Tacoma that was heading westbound.
Madhin sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital. On February 14, his condition worsened and succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Tacoma, a 27-year-old Wisconsin man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
Alcohol, drugs or distracted driving was not suspected to be factors on the part of the driver.
