Calaveras County, California (February 19, 2020) – One of the people who were killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in the Angels Camp area of Calaveras County has been identified as Jeffrey Heffington, 60, Chowchilla.
The fatal accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15 on Highway 4, just east of Pool Station Road.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, Haomiao Zhang, 20, of Davis, was driving eastbound on Highway 4 at an unknown rate of speed when his 2016 Lexus RX350 crossed over the double yellow lines on a curve and collided with a 2019 Toyota RAV 4 that was being driven westbound by Jeffrey Heffington.
As a result of the collision, the Lexus crashed into a traffic sign and flipped over.
Jeffrey Heffington and his passenger, a 58-year-old Chowchilla woman, were transported to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Zhang and his passengers, Ao Yang, 20, Minhao Liang, 19, and Linjunche Seyache, 19, all from Davis were all transported to a hospital with major injuries.
Authorities said alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
Highway 4 was shut down for approximately one hour as the investigation and clean up took place.
The accident remains under investigation.
According to Arin Khodaverdian, the Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, a separate investigation by an experienced attorney is necessary so as clearly uncover the circumstances surrounding the collision. “An attorney will also help the victim to navigate all the legal processes in pursuit of fair compensation and justice. Car accident claims are rarely straightforward, and, regardless of the circumstances involved, liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim. It is crucial, therefore, that you have an experienced attorney on your side,” said Arin.
