20-Year-Old Killed, James Parscal Hospitalized after DUI Crash on 5 Freeway near Highway 299
Redding, California (February 15, 2019) – Authorities are investigating a deadly car crash that left a 20-year-old man dead early Friday in Redding.
Moments after 1:00 a.m. police responded to a traffic accident on 5 Freeway near Lake Boulevard/Highway 299 interchange.
The California Highway Patrol said that 22-year-old Jecenia Hedrick of Anderson was riding a 2013 Honda Civic westbound on 5 Freeway when it rear-ended a 2006 BMW operated by a 20-year-old man. The BMW rolled over following the impact. A Peter-built tractor truck driver, identified as 56-year-old Timothy McDaniel of Medford, Oregon, couldn’t avoid the crash and slammed into the sedan.
The BMW driver was killed in the collision and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased was not immediately released.
Hedrick along with her passenger, identified as 20-year-old James Parscal, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that Hedrick was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash. The suspect was later arrested for DUI and is facing felony charges including manslaughter.
McDaniel did not suffer injuries in the accident.
The incident remains under investigation.
