3-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident at White and Hughes Lanes
Bakersfield, California (April 24, 2020) – A young child aged three years was seriously injured after an auto-pedestrian crash on Thursday morning in Bakersfield, police said.
At about 5:00 a.m., on April 23, the authorities responded to the crash on White and Hughes lanes.
According to the officials, a passing pickup truck struck the child on the roadway. The reasons that led to the crash are yet to be known.
The child was seriously hurt and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Ruben Venegas Etcheverria, 46, the involved driver, did not stop following the incident. But about an hour later, the driver returned to the scene.
Etcheverria was arrested for felony hit-and-run, causing injury.
Intoxication and speed were not considered factors in the accident.
An investigation into the crash is underway. Anyone with information about the mishap is asked to contact BPD at (661) 327-7111.
