Woman Injured in Laguna Beach Pedestrian Accident at Cleo Street and South Coast Highway; Lorenzo Velazquezurbano Arrested
Laguna Beach, California (September 14, 2019) – A woman was struck and injured by a hit and run driver Thursday at an intersection in Laguna Beach, according to police.
The accident happened at the intersection of Cleo Street and South Coast Highway Thursday, September 12.
Police said the woman was crossing South Coast Highway in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a blue 2003 Mustang driven by a 31-year-old San Diego area man. Due to the impact, the woman rolled onto the hood of the Mustang and came to a stop in the roadway.
The driver of the Mustang did not stop to render aid and continued traveling southbound.
The woman sustained lacerations to her elbow and ankle and complained of head pain. She was taken by responding paramedics to Mission Hospital-Mission Viejo for treatment.
The crash caused the closure of the southbound lanes of South Coast Highway at Legion Street for around 30 minutes.
The suspected vehicle was later located by authorities. The registered owner, Lorenzo Velazquezurbano, was detained and the car was impounded for evidence.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
