Romulo Ruiz Seriously Injured in National City Postal Truck Accident on Highland Avenue

Authorities Identify Postal Worker Hit and Injured by Vehicle on Highland Avenue as Romulo Ruiz

National City, California (October 10, 2019) – The US Postal Office worker who was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle while working in the back of his postal truck last month in National City has been identified as Romulo Ruiz, according to a local news report.

The accident happened on Thursday, September 12 in the 2900 block of Highland Avenue.

As per the local news report, an elderly man was driving his vehicle on Highland Avenue when he suffered a seizure and slammed into the rear of the USPS mail truck where Ruiz was standing.

Authorities said Ruiz was in the back of the truck retrieving mail when the accident occurred. He was pinned underneath the truck.

Ruiz was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, where he underwent surgery to place brackets inside his legs.

The elderly man driving the vehicle was also transported to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment of unspecified.
