Juanmin Liao ID’d as Woman Struck and Killed by Vehicle at Cleveland Avenue and State Farm Drive in Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa, California (October 19, 2019) – Juanmin Liao, 58, of Santa Rosa, has been identified as the pedestrian who was struck and killed and killed by a vehicle in Santa Rosa Friday afternoon, according to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office.
The fatalpedestrian accident happened at about 3:50 p.m. Friday, October 18 in the area of Cleveland Avenue and State Farm Drive.
Authorities said a Lexus SC 300, driven by Jacob Elias Elliot, 18, of Santa Rosa,was heading eastbound on State Farm Drive and turned into southbound Cleveland Avenue while a Subaru BRZ, driven by Deyvi Javier Pineda Arita, 20, of Santa Rosa, was traveling southbound on the slow lane of Cleveland Avenue and moved into the fast lane to pass a vehicle that was making a right turn onto westbound State Farm Drive.
The Subaru then returned into the slow lane, sideswiped the red Lexus and continued traveling southbound. Arita then lost control of the vehicle before drifting into the sidewalk and struck Liao. The Subaru then slammed into a building.
Liao was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arita was transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries and was then released. Elliot was not injured.
The intersection was closed for around three hours while authorities investigated the crash.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
