Edward Contreras ID’d as 1 of 2 Victims Killed in End-Of-Pursuit Crash at Cameron and Glendora Avenues
West Covina, California (October 13, 2019) – Edward Louie Contreras, 55, of Covina, has been identified as one of the two adults who were killed after a suspect running away from police crashed into their vehicle in West Covina early Saturday morning.
The fatal crash took place at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12 at the intersection of Cameron and Glendora avenues.
At around 9:00 p.m. Friday, the authorities received a report regarding a carjacking incident in the 15000 block of Badillo Street in Baldwin Park. The suspect, fleeing in a stolen 2010 Jeep Patriot, traveled into West Covina and was spotted by West Covina police.
A pursuit started after the suspect failed to stop for the police. The suspect was traveling northbound on Glendora Avenue when their vehicle collided with an eastbound vehicle at the intersection of Cameron Avenue.
Edward Contreras and an unidentified woman were ejected from the eastbound vehicle upon the impact.
Edward Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene while the woman was rushed to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A child was also transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries and was later arrested.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
