2 Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 140 near Santa Fe Grade Road in Gustine
Gustine, California (October 2, 2019) - A Merced-area Cal Fire captain was identified as the man who was killed in a car accident in Gustine, Merced County, on Wednesday morning.
According to a local news source, the fatal collision occurred on Highway 140 near Santa Fe Grade Road at about 7 a.m.
Paul Rotondaro, a Cal Fire captain, was driving a Ford Ranger when it collided head-on with a Dodge Ram pickup that was trying to pass a Ford Crown Victoria.
Crown Victoria sustained driver-side damage due to debris from the crash.
The Ram rolled down an embankment and overturned while the Ford Ranger veered off the roadway and caught fire.
Rotondaro and the driver of the Dodge Ram were killed in the collision.
The driver and a passenger of the Crown Victoria sustained minor injuries.
