2 People Killed in Fiery Car Crash on Interstate 5 near Leucadia Boulevard in Encinitas
Encinitas, California (October 28, 2019) - According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, two people were killed in a traffic accident in the Encinitas area early Sunday morning.
The fatal accident happened at about 1:45 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5, just south of Leucadia Boulevard.
As per the CHP report, a car was traveling on northbound Interstate 5 when for unknown reasons, it stopped in the fast lane and was hit from behind by another northbound vehicle.
As a result of the crash, the car that had been stopped went fire.
Two occupants in the stalled vehicle were declared dead at the scene. Their names have not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The crash caused the closure of all northbound Interstate 5 lanes near the crash site for more than 90 minutes.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
