Santa Clara, California (November 19, 2019) – The boy who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train while he was walking alone along the tracks in Santa Clara has been identified as Leonardo Shiyanga-Omani, 5.

The deadly crash happened at about 4:19 p.m.Saturday, November 16 near Lafayette Street and Highway 101.

According to authorities, Shiyanga-Omani was walking on the Union Pacific tracks unsupervised when for an unknown reason, a northbound Amtrak train hit him.

Shiyanga-Omani was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is still unclear how and why Shiyanga-Omani was on the tracks without any supervision. The accident remains under investigation by Amtrak police.
