Joseph Awaida Die, Wife and Son Hospitalized after Long Beach Pedestrian Crash on County Club Drive near Los Cerritos Park
According to authorities, Awaida was walking south on County Club Drive near Los Cerritos Park together with his wife and son when a 2002 Toyota Sequoia lost control, went up on the sidewalk and struck them.
Awaida was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His wife, Raihan and 3-year-old son, Omar, were injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Twenty-year-old Carlos Navarro, the drive involved, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. Navarro was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxication.
The investigation into the collision is still under investigation.
