Driver Dies in Pollock Pines Bus Crash on Pony Express Trail near Gilmore Road
Pollock Pines, California (November 23, 2019) - A driver was killed Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash in Pollock Pines, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident, which was reported just after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, happened on Pony Express Trail near Gilmore Road.
As per the CHP report, a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Pony Express Trail when its driver allowed the vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an El Dorado Transit bus that was heading westbound on Pony Express Trail.
The CHP said the El Dorado Transit bus was not transporting passengers at the time of the accident. According to witnesses, the truck driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and recklessly before the collision.
The driver of the pickup, who was not immediately identified, died in the accident.It was unknown if the bus driver was injured.
A tow truck was dispatched to the scene to tow the bus. Pony Express Trail near Gilmore Road was shut down as crews worked to clear the crash site. The road was estimated to reopen by 5:15 p.m.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
