Terry Bessey Arrested after Redding Hit-and-Run Accident That Injured Teen Pedestrian on North Court Street near Riverside Drive
Redding, California (December 31, 2019) – Authorities have identified the suspected hit-and-run driver who caused a traffic accident that seriously injured a teenage pedestrian earlier this month in Redding as Terry Bessey, 49, of Redding.
The accident occurred at about 3:02 p.m. Friday, December 13 on North Court Street near Riverside Drive.
According to the authorities, a 15-year-old boy was walking northbound on the sidewalk along North Court Street when for an unknown reason, he was hit by a blue Dodge pickup truck driven by Bessey.
Police said the teen was going home from school when the accident occurred.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and found the 15-year-old boy suffering from major injuries following the crash. The boy was transported to a hospital with a broken leg and facial injuries.
Bessey did not stop to render aid and fled eastbound on Riverside Drive.
At around 1:18 a.m. Monday, December 30, a witness called authorities to report that the suspect car and Bessey were in the area of Buenaventura Boulevard and Placer Street.
Authorities arrived and took Bessey to the Redding Police Department Investigations Division. The vehicle was towed as evidence.
Bessey was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving.
