Mecca, California (December 31, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle Tuesday morning in a rural area south of Mecca, authorities said.

The pedestrian accident was reported at about 8:24 a.m. near the intersection of Hayes Street and Avenue 71.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and located the man underneath a vehicle. He was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. His name was not immediately disclosed.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
