Nicholas Whittlesey Struck and Injured by Vehicle in Nevada County

Nicholas Whittlesey ID’d as Grass Valley Man Injured in Nevada County Pedestrian Accident on Newtown Road and Highway 49

Nevada County, California (December 31, 2019) – The pedestrian who was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle Sunday evening in Nevada County has been identified by authorities as Nicholas Whittlesey, 70, of Grass Valley.

The accident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, December 29 on Newtown Road and Highway 49.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Whittlesey was crossing from the Willo restaurant when he was hit by a GMC pickup driven by Jeffrey Scott Baumgartner, 52, who was on Highway 49 and turning left on Newtown Road.

Whittlesey was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

The CHP said Baumgartner was driving at approximately 30-35 mph at the time of the accident. Drugs or alcohol were not considered a factor in the crash.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
