Jonathan Salazar Arrested after Gardena Car Accident at Artesia Boulevard and Normandie Avenue
Gardena, California (December 23, 2019) – A man was killed while a woman suffered severe injuries early Sunday morning in the area of Gardena, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at about 4:41 a.m. Sunday, December 22, at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Normandie Avenue.
As per the CHP officials, Jonathan Salazar, 24, of Vista was heading eastbound on Artesia Boulevard in a black Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution when he slammed into the back of a gray Honda Civic traveling in the same direction. The Honda then drove into the junction before hitting a traffic signal in the median.
A small folding ladder in the Honda reportedly hit the back of either the head or neck of a man riding in the front passenger seat as a result of the impact.
Firefighters responded to the site and found the man lying in the roadway next to the Honda with fatal injuries.
The female Honda motorist was transported to UCLA Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The names of the victims were not immediately provided.
Salazar was later arrested by officials on suspicion of DUI and other unspecified felony offenses with a bail set at $100,000.
