Adrienne Smith Seriously Injured in Bakersfield Bicycle Accident on Manor Street at Circle Drive

Bakersfield, California (December 26, 2019) – The bicyclist who was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle Monday evening in Bakersfield has been identified by authorities as Adrienne Smith, 49

The bicycle crash happened at around 5:15 p.m. Monday, December 23 on southbound Manor Street at Circle Drive.

The California Highway Patrol said a Volkswagon, driven by Bethany Crooks, 21, was traveling on southbound Manor Street in the first lane at around 45 mph while Smith was crossing the intersection eastbound from Circle Drive.

Crooks failed to yield and hit the bicycle on the rear wheel. Due to the impact, Smith was thrown from her bike.

Smith was taken to Kern Medical Center with major injuries. Her condition was not immediately disclosed.

Crooks remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
