28-Year-Old San Dimas Man Killed, Five Injured in West Covina Car Accident on 10 Freeway near Holt Avenue
West Covina, California (December 31, 2019) – One person was killed and five other people were injured Monday evening in a multi-vehicle crash on the 10 Freeway in West Covina, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident took place at around 5:49 p.m. Monday, December 30 on the westbound 10 Freeway, just east of Holt Avenue.
According to a report by the CHP, a 60-year-old Sun Valley man was driving a Chevrolet Express van at approximately 60 in the No. 2 lane when for an unknown reason, he struck the rear of a Smart car operated by a 37-year-old Chino Hills man.
The Smart car was pushed into a Chrysler Aspen, which then slammed into the rear of a Kia Stinger.
The driver of the Smart car and his passenger, a 28-year-old San Dimas man, sustained blunt force trauma and were transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. The passenger succumbed to his injuries shortly before midnight. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The Express driver suffered facial injuries.The driver of the Aspen, a 43-year-old La Puente man, had pain in his shoulder, leg and back and was transported to Emanate Health Foothill Presbyterian Hospital.
The driver of the Stinger, a 40-year-old Covina woman, complained of shoulder, neck and back pain while her passenger, a 69-year-old Covina woman, had pain in her head, neck and back.
As of 6:12 p.m., all lanes of the westbound 10 Freeway were closed. They were reopened three hours later.
